In a company the size of Jones Engineering security is vital. With approximately 7400 items of plant and equipment, looking after and holding on to these assets is a priority. Over the years and through the many projects we have worked on we have amassed a large cache, in excess of 350 items, of storage units, roll-a-rounds, site stations, etc.
With the emergence of Lean Thinking in construction and the continuous growth of the company we are constantly looking for new innovations and products to improve all elements of our processes including security of our assets. In LEAN Times 64 back in June we featured an article from An Garda Síochána, Secure It Keep It – Crime Prevention Within The Construction Industry. Here we were informed about theft in the Construction Industry and how An Garda Síochána and the Construction Industry Federation are taking a proactive role to crime prevention in the construction industry. But as in all situations we are all responsible for our own valuables and must take our own steps to guarding them.
Recently we have teamed up with Armorgard, a leading manufacturer of innovative product solutions based around safety and efficiency on construction sites. In this issue of LEAN Times we highlight some of the Armorgard products most relevant to our site operations.
Like Jones Engineering, Armorgard began as a small company which has developed into a Europe-wide manufacturer shifting over 40,000 units a year. Their culture for producing unique innovative products is based on direct feedback, just like our ‘A Better Way’ system, they welcome your feedback particularly if you would prefer a practical meeting to discuss product design etc. Contact drew@armorgard.co.uk
Every time we start a new project we are at the behest of the Project Management teams who can insist that all contractor set ups are required to be painted brown, grey or any colour they choose. They may also require a specific type of notice board displaying the particular type of criteria that is relevant to their project. Armorgard have stepped up to the mark here and supply a lock up type notice board / safety station.
It’s a meeting point, an emergency station for your First-Aid, fire and H & S items, a notice board for your regulatory documentation and more. This all-in-one solution provides a home for the lot and is therefore an essential part of your on-site inventory. Features include two ample shelves and a double sided backboard to mount mandatory information or equipment such as a First-Aid box or fire blanket. Instructahut™ is weatherproof, self-supporting and built to last for years on construction sites. It is also painted in a highly visible red colour, so everyone will know where to find it.
Real estate has become a massive issue on construction projects nowadays. Most sites don’t have room for contractor workshops or site set-ups. On a lot of the larger projects there could be several mechanical contractors, several electrical contractors and several civil contractors, all pushing for areas for storage, prefabrication, cut brackets, etc. Armorgard have cut the mustard again with a solution to some of these problems. Firstly there is the Armorgard cuttingstation™. This is a neat mobile workstation that eliminates the need for a separate cutting room and is essential for safely cutting lengths, such as conduit, pipe, cable trays, containment and brackets.
Some of the Cuttingstation’s features are:
Integral safety features include:
Extraction and air filtration units can easily be fitted and a roomy, lockable cupboard provides secure storage.
Over the last number of years we have seen a huge number of Process type projects being undertaken, such as Semi-Conductor factories, Pharmaceutical plants, Data Centres; etc. Cleanliness is paramount on these type of sites leading to the use of highly expensive vacuum cleaners. These vacuum cleaners often have to be used when drilling or cutting in the field. Another innovative solution to this issue is the Armorgard xtractabench™. Protect your workforce and work area from dust and fumes with xtractabench, the All-in one workbench and extraction management unit. This sturdy mobile unit is a must-have for anyone cutting, grinding, routing or working with materials such as metal, plastic, wood or plasterboard.
The key features of the xtractabench™ are a perforated downdraught work surface and housing for an extraction or filtration unit underneath. Dust and fumes are drawn directly away from the working area and a collection hopper is built in to catch heavier particles and dust. On the side of the bench is a convenient fold-down shelf to mount your M or H class vacuum for on-tool extraction.
We have already purchased a number of Site Stations for several of our projects which can be customised to suit individual needs, such as internal whiteboards, lighting, castors for easy mobility, etc. We featured these in a previous LEAN Times.
tuffbank™ sets the industry benchmark in quality while also delivering outstanding value for money. Its heavy duty steel plate construction and unique Armorgard anti-jemmy technology mean that it is virtually impregnable to all but the most sophisticated thief.
These boxes come with an internal locking system so the lock barrels cannot be drilled out. Each box comes with it’s own unique key code so if keys are lost Armorgard provide a replacement key service.
The oxbox™ is the most popular site box for all new projects. This simple and dependable solution for securing tools and equipment is a medium duty range site box designed for use where budget is a consideration but with no compromise on quality. It shares many of the premium features found on its higher priced companion ranges, including locks, hinges, gas struts and paint finish, while its unique ‘folded’ construction delivers outstanding strength. Manufactured from 1.5mm and 2mm steel, the oxbox is available in 6 popular sizes and offers dependable, cost-effective security for your tools.
